Question
What will be the mode of delivery, is there any preference for virtual or in-person?
Answer
There is not a general preference. The university has adapted broadly to remote work, but in-person meetings can be quite effective in certain situations and should not be ruled out. We would need to know of any additional costs associated with in-person coaching.

Question
What is the estimated budget?
Answer
Currently, coaching services are not budgeted centrally, and costs are absorbed by the planning units requesting the coaching. Since the process is decentralized, I do not have visibility to all coaching requests which makes it difficult to provide accurate estimates on annual spending or number of people to be coached.

Question
Do participants use the coaching services electively or are they required to use them?
Answer
Both. Sometimes the coaching assignment stems from performance concerns and the employee needs to work with the coach to avoid derailing and/or to improve performance in some area. Other times, the coaching is purely developmental and intended to help the employee prepare for future opportunities that are supportive of their career development.

Question
You mention sourcing coaches for a leadership development program of 50 participants. Is this the total anticipated volume for all types of coaching included in the scope? If not, what is your estimated total number of participants?
Answer
The reference to 50 participants for a leadership program demonstrates a maximum perceived need for coaching services at any one time. We used to include executive coaching as a component of our Senior Leadership Development Program where each participant was assigned an Executive coach to support their development throughout the program. This was very costly and inconsistently effective, so we discontinued the offering. Although it would be nice to know what the cost and capacity would be for a provider to support such a request in the future, this is not a primary need for us. As to estimating the number of coaching engagements, these requests are currently decentralized so I am not able to provide an accurate projection.

Question
Will you exclusively need executive coaches, or coaches for mid-level employees as well?
Answer
We may have an occasional need for mid-level coaching, but since coaching engagements can be costly, these experiences are most likely to be focused on senior/executive level leaders (Deans, VP’s, Assistant VP’s, Chief positions, etc.)

Question
Will you ONLY consider consultants who are
certified (ICF or ICC)? OR will you consider consultants based on years of experience within higher education ?
Answer
Since there is no shortage of people offering coaching services, and since there is also a wide range of competence in this space, we strongly prefer certified coaches. Neither experience nor certification can guarantee coaching effectiveness, but we think we generally have higher likelihood of success with the added rigor of certification, so we strongly prefer credentialled coaches.
